100 Sick Children Visit Monaco as Part of the Voiles de l’Espoir

The 12th edition of Voiles de l’Espoir, sponsored this year by Christian Millette, a professional dancer from "Danse avec les Stars," made a stop at the YCM Marina on Wednesday, June 19.

The children, aged 8 to 14, are in remission from cancer and leukemia. They embarked on Sunday, June 16, on 50 boats to sail along the Azure Coast (from Saint-Raphaël, Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Monaco, and Golfe-Juan) for a week as part of the 12th edition of Voiles de l’Espoir.

Monaco had prepared a full and unique program for these children, many of whom have undergone intensive chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant. After witnessing the changing of the guard, they were welcomed by Prince Albert II for a visit to the Palace. They then had the opportunity to tour the famous F1 circuit in cars belonging to members of the historical commission of the Automobile Club of Monaco. The day concluded with psycho-educational workshops at the Yacht Club of Monaco, followed by a themed evening titled "Pirate Princes and Princesses."

"This adventure is pure happiness because at home we think about our past, but here we don’t think about the illness, and that’s really nice," said Baptiste, 13.

After more than 20 years, this 100% volunteer-run event maintains its core mission: to take children out of their medical and familial contexts, offering them a taste of freedom, learning, effort, and solidarity. Through this experience, they regain confidence and self-esteem.

After spending 24 hours in Monaco, the journey continues to Golfe-Juan Vallauris for the final leg of this unforgettable adventure!
