A total of 160 people were granted Monegasque nationality in 2024, with 98 acquiring it by descent, 51 through marriage, and 11 by Sovereign Naturalisation Order.
To celebrate this milestone, a formal reception was held on March 6, 2025, in the Wedding Suite at Monaco’s Town Hall. Among the attendees were Mayor Georges Marsan and elected Council members Marjorie Crovetto, Jacques Pastor, Karyn Ardisson Salopek, André Campana, Georges Gambarini, Nada Lorenzi, and Nathalie Vaccarezza. Also present was Guillaume Pastor, representing the President of the Crown Council. A total of 40 new Monegasques attended the ceremony.
During the event, Mayor Marsan presented each recipient with meaningful gifts, emphasizing the significance of their new nationality. “As a memento of this occasion, we are delighted to offer you a reproduction of the original manuscript by poet Louis Notari, who wrote the Monegasque lyrics of our national anthem in 1931, along with a recently published booklet of Monegasque songs featuring performances by the Rainier III Academy Children’s Choir, accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, you will receive a lithograph by Hubert Clerissi, whose work is currently on display in an exhibition supported by the Town Hall at the Quai Antoine 1er exhibition hall,” he announced.
The ceremony concluded on a poignant note, with the Rainier III Academy Children’s Choir delivering a heartfelt rendition of the Monegasque Anthem.
Unlike in many other countries, Monegasque nationality is not automatically granted by birth or residency. Instead, it is acquired through descent, adoption, or in the case of individuals born in Monaco to unknown parents. It can also be obtained through marriage after 20 years of cohabitation or via naturalisation, which is open to those who have resided in Monaco for at least ten years after turning 18.
