"25th Anniversary of Prince Rainier III's Ascension": Archival Film Screening at the Audiovisual Institute

June 17, 2024

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, join us for a special documentary screening that chronicles the anniversary of Prince Rainier III's ascension with his family.

The Audiovisual Institute of Monaco invites you to experience a unique historical moment in the Principality's history. "The 25th Anniversary of the Ascension of Rainier III," produced by TMC in May 1974, commemorates the anniversary of Prince Rainier III's reign. This cherished film, shot in color on 16 mm film, captures the unforgettable festivities of the event, with narration by José Sacré.

In his ninth year leading the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Kazuki Yamada continues his successful approach with a varied program featuring a range of carefully selected concerts and artists, including emerging talents.

The season highlights include Mahler's Third Symphony, Saint-Saëns' The Ancestor with the Tokyo Philharmonic Choir, numerous recitals, and cine-concerts. The OPMC aims to meet all audience expectations once again this year.

For the 2024-2025 season, the OPMC will welcome Dutch pianist brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen in residence, praised by Kazuki Yamada for their "organic and enriching" music. Additionally, two 16-year-old prodigies, pianist Alexandra Dovgan and violinist Bohdan Luts, will have the honor of performing in Monaco.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ravel's birth and the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death, the OPMC will host tribute concerts throughout the year honoring these two iconic composers.

In early 2025, the 4th edition of the Mozart Festival in Monaco will feature two opera evenings, a spiritual concert in the Cathedral, and six additional concerts, including one with clarinetist Pierre Génisson.

During his speech, Kazuki Yamada shared that he was "touched and moved to tears" during the Japan tour concerts in his homeland. All concerts in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo were sold out. "The OPMC is a cultural ambassador of Monaco," noted the artistic director.

The Tokyo Philharmonic Choir will visit Monaco on October 6 to perform Saint-Saëns' opera The Ancestor. This opera, like Déjanire, which was performed again in 2022, was originally created in 1906 for the Opéra de Monaco.
