At the 119th edition of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, a defining moment emerged for Valentin Vacherot, whose performance captured both local pride and international attention.
In a semifinal contested on Saturday, April 11, Vacherot faced the world No. 1 and defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz ultimately prevailed, yet the match marked a significant milestone for the Monegasque player, who was widely praised for an exceptional week that secured his entry into the ATP Top 20 rankings.
Among those present was Prince Albert II, who personally congratulated Vacherot following the match. The encounter also took place in the presence of Mélanie-Antoinette de Massy, President of the tournament, the Monte-Carlo Country Club, and the Monegasque Tennis Federation.

In remarks after the match, the Sovereign commended what he described as an extraordinary tournament, highlighting both the significance of competing against the world’s top-ranked player on the central court and the rapid trajectory of Vacherot’s career. He noted the player’s long-recognized potential, often hindered by injury, and emphasized the remarkable nature of his rise - from 204th place in the ATP rankings to his current standing in a short span of time.
The semifinal, though ending in defeat, underscored a broader narrative: the emergence of a Monegasque talent onto the sport’s highest stage, and a performance that signals both arrival and promise.
