For over thirteen decades, its winding coastal avenues and steep Mediterranean hills have served not merely as a backdrop for high-end transport, but as an open-air laboratory and stage for mechanical innovation, motorsport competition, and industrial design.
This summer, that legacy takes center stage at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco through "Monaco et l'Automobile, de 1893 à nos jours" ("Monaco and the Automobile, from 1893 to the Present Day"). Running through September 6, 2026, the comprehensive retrospective gathers more than 50 iconic, highly verified historical vehicles - ranging from early pioneers like a 1893 Panhard & Levassor to the pinnacle of modern Formula 1 machinery, alongside luxury marques such as Ferrari, Bugatti, and Rolls-Royce.
What sets the exhibition apart is its commitment to historical authenticity and contextual depth. Curated across vast exhibition spaces, the showcase features rare archival materials, historic posters, and original race artifacts supplied in partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco. Highlights include storied Monte-Carlo Rally victors and the legendary Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith that carried Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace following their 1956 wedding.
In tracing the arc from late 19th-century endurance runs to today’s cutting-edge automotive engineering, the Grimaldi Forum offers more than nostalgia. It provides an insightful examination of how a small sovereign enclave leveraged the speed, glamour, and technological prowess of the motorcar to shape its modern global identity.
