Rising over ten stories and encompassing a total surface area of 12,000 square meters, the new headquarters of the Société Monégasque de l’Électricité et du Gaz (SMEG) marks a significant milestone in the Principality’s architectural and industrial history. Officially named Immeuble SMEG, the modern structure was inaugurated on Wednesday, October 15, by Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
This event comes as SMEG celebrates its 135th anniversary - a testament to its enduring role as a cornerstone of Monaco’s public services and infrastructure. The new building will host SMEG’s executive teams, private tenants, and several governmental departments, reflecting the company’s evolution as a leader in energy and environmental innovation.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Thomas Battaglione, CEO of SMEG, alongside members of the Princely Government and prominent Monégasque personalities.

More than three decades have passed since the first inauguration of SMEG’s previous premises, an event presided over by Prince Rainier III, accompanied by then - Hereditary Prince Albert. The unveiling of Immeuble SMEG thus carries deep historical and symbolic resonance for the Principality - connecting Monaco’s legacy of progress with its sustainable future.
With its contemporary design and functional scope, the new headquarters stands as both a tribute to SMEG’s 135-year journey and a forward-looking emblem of Monaco’s continued commitment to innovation, efficiency, and excellence
