Monaco United Football Club has officially launched its women’s team, marking a historic step for the Principality’s sporting landscape. Under the leadership of former AC Milan striker Marco Simone, the squad enters its inaugural season with ambition and momentum.
The team’s pre-season began with a symbolic 5-1 victory against Arles-Avignon, just ten days after training started. Marina Makanza, a former French international, scored the first goal in the club’s history. That match laid the groundwork for Simone’s attacking philosophy, quickly taking shape within the team.
Soon after, Monaco United made its first international trip, facing AC Milan’s U19 women at the Puma House of Football. Though the Italian side won 5-1, the match provided valuable experience and marked a personal return for Simone to his former club.
“I saw real consistency between the work done and what the players delivered on the pitch,” Simone said. “It’s very encouraging for what’s to come.”

Having built the squad through video scouting and open trials, Simone emphasized a balanced mix of young talent and experienced players. The club’s vision is further strengthened by the Marzocco Group, now the official sponsor for the 2025/2026 season. Claudio Marzocco cited the importance of supporting women’s advancement through action, calling the partnership “a tangible way to stand by the women of the Principality.”
The season begins on September 7 with a French Cup fixture at FC Carros. One week later, Monaco will witness its first-ever women’s derby, as Monaco United faces ASMFF 2 on the opening day of Division 5. “Some events will remain in history forever,” Simone said. “This first derby will be one of them.”
As Monaco United Football Club prepares to take its place in competition, the message is clear: women’s football in the Principality is no longer emerging - it’s here.
