This summer, a touch of old-world glamour returns to European travel as the iconic night train between Marseille and Rome makes its highly anticipated comeback. Blending nostalgia with refined comfort, the Espresso Riviera is set to run from 4 June to 30 September 2026, offering an unforgettable journey along the Mediterranean’s most scenic coastline.
Following a remarkable debut season, where the train achieved an impressive 92% occupancy rate and welcomed over 3,000 passengers, demand for this unique travel experience has surged. Originally launched in 2024 between Nice and Milan, and extended in 2025 to include the Marseille–Rome route, the Espresso Riviera has quickly become a favorite among discerning travelers seeking both elegance and adventure.
At the heart of the itinerary lies Monaco, perfectly positioned along this cinematic route. Departing from Rome Termini, the train glides through the Italian Riviera—Ventimiglia, Sanremo, and Genoa—before reaching the French Riviera’s most coveted destinations: Nice, Monaco, Cannes, and Marseille. Each stretch offers breathtaking sea views, making the journey as captivating as the destinations themselves.
For the 2026 season, operator FS Treni Turistici Italiani has elevated the experience even further. The train will now run three times per week—triple the frequency of last year—and has been expanded to eleven carriages to accommodate growing interest. Yet, despite these enhancements, the essence of vintage travel remains untouched.
Guests can expect charming couchette compartments, elegant private cabins, a stylish bar car, and breakfast served as the sun rises over the Ligurian coast. Prices begin at €94.90 for shared accommodations, while private cabins with dinner and breakfast range between €184.90 and €214.90.
More than just transportation, the Espresso Riviera is a journey into a bygone era—where travel itself becomes the destination.
