OCM
On Monday, September 15, the Mediterranean became the stage for an extraordinary feat of endurance, innovation, and environmental vision. Massimiliano Mordenti, founder of the Offroad Club Monaco (OCM) and official pilot of the Fédération Monégasque Motonautique, successfully completed the UIM World Long-Distance Jet Ski Record attempt (pending official approval) on a machine powered entirely by 100% bioethanol.
Departing from the Yacht Club de Monaco, the official start and finish line, Mordenti set out to conquer the Monaco–Gallinara Island (Liguria, Italy)–Monaco route. Covering the course in approximately three hours, he not only tested his physical endurance but also delivered a strong symbolic message: competitive water sports can embrace sustainability without compromising on adrenaline.
The attempt came after a summer of uncertain weather. When a narrow window opened on September 15, the OCM team seized the moment, despite less-than-ideal conditions. For Mordenti, joined in this venture by his wife and co-founder of OCM, Erminia Fezia Mordenti, the challenge was about more than performance. It was a demonstration of values — that sport, innovation, and environmental responsibility can move in unison.
A Collective Vision for a Responsible Future
This achievement was the result of a collaborative ecosystem. The initiative was ideated and led by the Offroad Club Monaco, carried out with the active support of the Fédération Monégasque Motonautique, and supervised by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). It also benefitted from the backing of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Monaco, reinforcing the message that sustainability is a global mission.
Beyond the numbers and the speed, the record attempt embodied a philosophy: using the Mediterranean as a stage not only for sporting glory, but for raising awareness of the urgent need to protect it. As Mordenti himself emphasized, the journey was about proving that the future of sport can be both thrilling and responsible.
With Monaco as its backdrop — a hub of innovation and ecological initiatives — this pioneering ride signals a new chapter where performance and sustainability are no longer separate paths, but one shared horizon.
