The British Association of Monaco, in collaboration with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is hosting a special cultural event celebrating the artistic connection between two painters whose relationship changed the course of modern British art - Adolphe Valette and his pupil, L.S. Lowry.
Contrary to popular belief, L.S. Lowry was not self-taught. The English painter, best known for his industrial cityscapes, studied under the French Impressionist Adolphe Valette, whose refined technique and sensitivity to light profoundly shaped Lowry’s artistic vision. It was in fact in Paris, not England, that Lowry first received significant critical recognition - an early acknowledgment of the Franco-British artistic dialogue that continues to inspire.
This remarkable story is the focus of Adolphe Valette & L.S. Lowry, the Master and His Pupil, the latest work by Cécilia Lyon, a member of the British Association of Monaco. Lyon will present her book on Wednesday, November 13, at the Stelios Philanthropic Centre, 14 Quai Antoine 1er, Monaco. Doors open at 18:00, and the talk begins at 18:30.
