In a gesture of friendship and recognition, France has successfully proposed naming a significant undersea feature in the Indian Ocean after His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. The proposal, submitted to the International Hydrographic Organization, commemorates the Prince’s lifelong dedication to ocean conservation and governance, a legacy that echoes the pioneering marine exploration of his great-grandfather, Prince Albert I.
Located at 25° south latitude and 69° east longitude, the newly christened “Prince Albert II Seamount” rises to a depth of 1,958 meters. The naming, formalized by the International Hydrographic Organization, coincides with a state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the deep ties between France and Monaco.
