La Diagonale Among the Top Training Centers in Ligue 1. The French Football Federation (FFF) has recently released the annual evaluation of training centers based on their effectiveness for the 2023-2024 season. AS Monaco stands out by securing the fourth place in Ligue 1 with a rating of 3.5 stars. Here’s the explanation.
La Diagonale consistently ranks among the best training centers in Ligue 1. According to the FFF’s annual evaluation for the 2023-2024 season, AS Monaco’s training center is once again highly placed, as it was in 2022 and 2023. With a score of 3.5 out of five stars, the club from the Principality is fourth in Ligue 1, following Rennes, Lyon, and PSG.
The ranking is based on several criteria: professionalization (players aged 16 to 23 under professional contracts in the top two divisions of the ten highest-ranked UEFA countries and the National league), playing time in the first team of the training club, national selections (international matches played by the players, regardless of nationality), education (diplomas obtained in the previous season), and European representation (players from clubs with points in the UEFA ranking, having had at least a one-year training agreement).
AS Monaco excels particularly in professionalization, achieving a maximum score of five stars. This reflects the integration of Academy players into the club’s project, as evidenced by the professional contracts signed this season by Aladji Bamba, Amal Boura, Joan Tincres, Jules Bery, and Nacim Dendani.
Several players developed at La Diagonale have made their professional debuts, including Mamadou Coulibaly (unfortunately injured), Lucas Michal, and Saïmon Bouabré. Additionally, Maghnes Akliouche (7 goals, 4 assists), Eliesse Ben Seghir (2 goals, 1 assist), and Soungoutou Magassa (1432 minutes played) have become valuable assets under Adi Hütter’s guidance, contributing significantly to the club’s qualification for the Champions League.
Regarding national selections, AS Monaco scores 4.5 out of 5 stars and is among the top contributors in the league. Over 15 players have been called up to national teams, with some even participating in international competitions. This includes Saïmon Bouabré and Joan Tincres, who were runners-up in the U17 World Cup last December, as well as Kylian Mbappé and Eliesse Ben Seghir.
Academic success is also a priority at La Diagonale. In 2023, 14 players earned their baccalaureate. This achievement is the result of consistent daily effort, recognized by Lionel Rouxel, the head of national selections, during his visit to La Diagonale in October 2023.
