The Opéra de Monte-Carlo will host a highly anticipated recital on 14 February, bringing together two iconic figures of the operatic world: Cecilia Bartoli and Plácido Domingo. The Valentine’s Day performance will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the intimate setting of the Salle Garnier, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the artists in a recital format.
The concert marks another milestone in a collaboration that spans more than thirty years. Bartoli and Domingo first met in New York early in their careers and went on to record Mozart’s Idomeneo together in 1994. Since then, their paths have crossed regularly on major international stages. Monaco audiences last saw them perform together in 2023, during a concert that was widely praised for its musical depth and emotional intensity.
For this Valentine’s recital, the programme has been conceived as a reflection of their shared musical affinities and Mediterranean roots. The artists will be accompanied by French pianist David Fray, whose refined and expressive playing will support a repertoire focused on intimacy, lyricism and interpretative nuance.
Unlike full-scale operatic productions, the recital format allows for a closer connection between performers and audience, highlighting vocal colour, phrasing and dramatic expression. The evening is expected to appeal both to opera connoisseurs and to audiences seeking a more personal musical experience.
The event is part of the current season of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, which continues to attract world-renowned artists. Tickets are available through the opera’s box office, and demand is expected to be high for what promises to be one of the cultural highlights of the winter season in Monaco.
