Between Land and Sea: How Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum Teaches Coastal Conservation As part of its ongoing educational outreach, the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco is running an interactive public program titled “Les animaux du bord de mer” (Seaside Animals) aimed at deepening public understanding of Mediterranean coastal ecosystems.

Hosted in the museum’s dedicated educational space, the guided workshop introduces visitors to the complex biological strategies used by intertidal fauna to survive in the changing zone between land and sea. Led by scientific mediators, participants examine common Mediterranean species - including crabs, sea anemones, starfish, and sea urchins - focusing on their behavior, movement, feeding habits, and role within local marine ecosystems.

Designed as a family-focused activity accessible to children as young as three years old, the hands-on session encourages direct observation and guided interaction to foster environmental awareness among younger generations.
