In the Principality of Monaco, the intersection of urban stewardship and social welfare is creating new pathways for civic engagement. A recent initiative, which brought members of the municipal Seniors Unit to the Princess Grace Rose Garden, exemplifies how the government utilizes public spaces to foster community connection and enhance the quality of life for its older residents.
The event was facilitated by the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain, the municipal department responsible for the maintenance and management of the Principality's public spaces, including its renowned botanical sites. Led by Franck Champion and his team, the guided visit provided participants with professional insights into the horticultural diversity of the garden, which houses over 450 varieties of roses.
This outreach is a core function of the Service des Seniors et de l’Action Sociale, a branch of the Mairie de Monaco dedicated to social integration, daily support, and the animation of daily life for seniors. By organizing such outings, the Service aims to promote active engagement and maintain essential social bonds among the senior population.

The collaborative effort extended beyond a simple tour. Following the visit, participants received tokens of appreciation provided by the Service des Seniors et de l’Action Sociale, including lavender sachets, rose-scented perfume, and small rose bushes, serving as a tangible reminder of the municipality's commitment to its citizens.
These interactions transform public infrastructure - such as the Princess Grace Rose Garden - into a vital "garden gate" for social cohesion.
