Dominique Fils-Aimé’s Radiant Minimalist Jazz Finds an Ancient Amphitheater

On July 7, 2026, the open-air stage of the Théâtre du Fort Antoine will host Dominique Fils-Aimé, the Montreal-based singer-songwriter whose singular exploration of African-American musical traditions has established her as a vital voice in contemporary vocal jazz. Organized by the Direction des Affaires Culturelles, the 9:30 p.m. performance marks a significant stop on "The Sunshine Tour," supporting her highly acclaimed fifth studio album, My World Is the Sun, which was released on February 20, 2026. For 90 minutes, the historic maritime fortress on Avenue de la Quarantaine will serve as the backdrop for an artist.

Ms. Dominique Fils-Aimé’s rise within the international jazz landscape has been defined by a rigorous, conceptual approach to recording. A two-time Juno Award winner - securing Vocal Jazz Album of the Year honors for Stay Tuned! (2020) and Our Roots Run Deep (2024) - she works primarily in structural trilogies. Her latest collection, My World Is the Sun, serves as a deliberate balance between the intricate, multi-tracked vocal harmonies of her studio work and the rhythmic, physical presence of her live performances. Critics have noted the album's profound restraint; it operates as an intentional, serene counterweight to contemporary anxieties, allowing her rich, flexible voice to navigate minimalist arrangements of double bass, percussion, and soul-stirring melodies.

Though firmly rooted in Montreal, Ms. Dominique Fils-Aimé has systematically expanded her global footprint, earning critical praise at the Blue Note in New York and Los Angeles, and sharing European bills with genre giants like Melody Gardot, Diana Krall, and Ibrahim Maalouf. Produced by La Maison Fauve, this general admission concert invites the audience on a transcendent journey, using space, silence, and structural vulnerability to captivate and connect against the open-air backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.
