In the hallowed halls of academia, few have made as significant an impact in such a short time as Prof. Dr. Konstantina Papathanasiou, LL.M. Her remarkable achievements and relentless pursuit of excellence have rightfully earned her a spot on Monaco Voice's prestigious 40 Under 40 list.
Since September 1, 2021, Prof. Dr. Papathanasiou has held the distinguished Chair of Economic Criminal Law, Compliance, and Digitalization at the University of Liechtenstein. Her journey began in Athens, where she pursued legal studies from 2001 to 2005, culminating in a Master's degree in Criminal Law.
With the support of a DAAD-Scholarship, Prof. Dr. Papathanasiou advanced her research at the University of Heidelberg in 2008. Her dedication and aptitude earned her a coveted scholarship from the Alexander Onassis Foundation, which allowed her to complete her doctorate between 2010 and 2013.
Prof. Dr. Papathanasiou continued her upward trajectory, securing a habilitation scholarship from the University of Regensburg and funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. From 2017 to 2020, she devoted herself to her habilitation thesis, ultimately achieving her venia legendi for criminal law, criminal procedural law, economic criminal law, international criminal law, comparative law, and legal philosophy in March 2021.
Her expertise has been sought around the globe. Since 2016, Prof. Dr. Papathanasiou has served as a visiting professor at the prestigious Faculté Libre de Droit in Paris. In 2018, she enjoyed a two-month research fellowship at the esteemed Collège de France. Most recently, in 2021, she was elected to the Board of the Greek Society of Criminal Law.
