As the new school year approaches, fraudsters have been capitalizing on the rush to renew bus subscriptions by creating a deceptive offer targeting Monaco residents. A fake €3 bus pass deal has been circulating on social media, luring users with the promise of 180 days of unlimited travel on Monaco’s bus network for an impossibly low price. However, this so-called deal is nothing more than a scam.
The fraud has been spread through a counterfeit Facebook page named "Abonnement aux transports publics de Monaco," which mimics the branding and logos of the Compagnie de Bus de Monaco (CAM) to appear legitimate. The scam’s true intent is to direct users to phishing sites hosted in Russia, where they are encouraged to provide sensitive personal information, including bank details.
An anonymous user on the "Aide et solidarité entre les résidents de Monaco" Facebook group first brought attention to this fraudulent activity. On August 26, the Compagnie de Bus de Monaco officially warned its users about the scam via social media, urging them to avoid clicking on the malicious link and to disregard any false information being circulated.
CAM stressed that the only reliable sources for bus pass information are the official CAM website and the Monapass application. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to bus pass renewals.
