Cyclists in Monaco will be able to give their bikes a free check-up this September as the Principality puts two-wheel transport in the spotlight for European Mobility Week.

On Wednesday 16 September, the Mairie de Monaco, in partnership with Decathlon, will set up a dedicated bicycle workshop at the Marché de la Condamine. Running from 3pm to 6pm, the afternoon will give cyclists the opportunity to have their bikes inspected and adjusted by professionals at no cost.

The initiative is open to everyone, with no appointment required. Visitors can simply arrive with their bicycle during the three-hour session. For repairs involving a puncture or a tyre replacement, however, cyclists will need to provide the necessary inner tube or replacement components themselves.

Beyond helping residents keep their bicycles in good condition, the event forms part of Monaco’s wider efforts to encourage alternatives to private cars and make everyday mobility more sustainable.

The workshop also follows the principles of the Mùnegu Repair Café, introduced by the municipality in April 2022. The programme was created around a simple idea: rather than throwing damaged or malfunctioning objects away, residents can bring them to specialists and volunteers who will try to repair them free of charge.

Previous Repair Café sessions have covered everyday household objects, small electrical appliances and clothing. The September event takes the same approach and applies it specifically to bicycles, combining waste reduction with the promotion of active transport.

For regular cyclists, it provides a practical opportunity to check that their bike is ready for daily use. For those with a bicycle that has been sitting unused, it could also be a good reason to get back on two wheels.

The free workshop takes place at Marché de la Condamine on 16 September from 3pm to 6pm.
