In a move to ease congestion and improve mobility, the Prince’s Government has announced that Monaco’s buses will operate free of charge during major events. The initiative, run in collaboration with the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM), is intended to encourage residents and visitors alike to leave their cars behind when the Principality faces its heaviest traffic.
Monaco’s compact geography makes large-scale gatherings both spectacular and challenging. Events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix or the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters draw tens of thousands of spectators, often overwhelming parking facilities and creating gridlock. By removing the cost of bus travel, the government hopes to make public transport the most convenient option, reducing emissions and easing pressure on the road network.
The first test of this policy comes in September 2025, when buses will be free throughout the Monaco Yacht Show. The measure will extend beyond the show itself to include the installation and dismantling phases, as well as Luxe Pack Monaco, which follows immediately afterwards. This longer timeframe reflects the reality of how traffic disruptions affect daily life in the Principality.
Looking ahead, the free transport scheme will become a fixture of Monaco’s event calendar starting in 2026. CAM will offer free rides during the Principality’s most high-profile gatherings: the Historic Grand Prix, the Monaco E-Prix, the Formula 1 Grand Prix, La Vuelta, and the prestigious tennis tournament at Monte-Carlo. Detailed timetables and operational updates will be published before each event to ensure smooth planning for passengers.
To meet the expected surge in demand, CAM will also reinforce its network with additional services at peak times. The aim is not only to simplify access to Monaco’s celebrated events, but also to set an example of sustainable, efficient urban mobility.
