The official opening ceremony brought together a global delegation of engineering teams, commercial partners, and marine innovators, formalizing a multi-day industrial forum dedicated strictly to elevating performance benchmarks, long-term ecological sustainability, and next-generation design paradigms across the global yachting sector.
The international assembly has drawn a record-setting operational field of 54 engineering teams representing 21 nations. Over the course of the event, more than 500 student engineers are putting specialized clean-energy prototypes to the test across four distinct competitive categories: the battery-centric Energy Class, the autonomous AI Class, the experimental SeaLab Class, and the market-ready Open Sea Xperience. Designed to function as a real-world, open-air marine laboratory, the event mandates that all emerging propulsion systems - ranging from hydrogen fuel cells and solar arrays to advanced hydrofoils and cutting-edge alternative fuels like green methanol - are subjected to identical, highly regulated sea conditions in Monaco Bay to systematically verify their true energy efficiency and mechanical reliability.

Supported institutionally by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and major corporate sponsors, the event’s opening highlights underscore the Principality's calculated ambition to steer the broader maritime energy transition. By creating a collaborative pipeline where commercial shipbuilding conglomerates can directly observe and absorb the open-source breakthroughs of young research teams, the challenge successfully transforms theoretical eco-design into scalable, industrialized applications for the future of global navigation.
