HOW MONACO HELPED SHAPE MY MUSIC CAREER

“The Principality has been such a positive  influence”,  says singer songwriter Kaiza

AMERICAN singer-songwriter Kaiza tells Monaco Voice that spending time in the Principality, the US and the UK has shaped her musical career.

“These are all places where my family resides and they have helped create the way I write and the way I sing,” says the 22-year-old born of a Chinese mother and a Slovak father.

“I feel truly international and all of these influences have positively affected my style of music. The stunning atmosphere of Monaco’s hidden ocean view trails, London’s sophisticated charm and the vibrant culture of creativity, innovation and exploration of the US have melded me into what I am today.”

Kaiza is currently working on a new single titled Medicine, which, fittingly, has a Valentine’s Day message for her ever-growing legion of fans.

She adds: “In honour of the most romantic day in the calendar, my soon-to-be released song will feature new love following in the wake of a broken relationship. It talks about moving on from the past and diving head first, head over heels, into the many exciting feelings falling in love again can bring.”

Her most recent release was Object Of Desire, which showcased a soft and delicate, almost melancholic, ambience, but while she will continue in this genre, Kaiza promised a livelier and more upbeat dynamic to her new work.

Kaiza first became widely known for her opera and classical piano background with an impressive repertoire that included performances, both vocally and as a pianist at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York.

But she first gained traction after starring as the lead actress in a short film directed by Emmy-nominated Mike Shum.

In more recent years, she has focused on navigating her way through the world of modern music as a singer, songwriter and recording artist after releasing her debut EP, The Writer, in 2022.

The creative process has always fascinated Kaiza. “The human connection between an artist and a listener is easily the most rewarding part,” she says. “It’s a vulnerable space if you think about it; it’s a listener trusting an artist to take them on an emotional journey.

“With certain songs there’s a sense of being understood between both the listener and the artist that I don’t think you can really find elsewhere.

“And with others, you might feel on top of the world or get your daily dose of dopamine and serotonin in under five minutes.”

Musically, her style has evolved into something that can be favourably compared to that of fellow singer songwriters Adele, Lana del Rey and Florence and the Machine, with Kaiza’s major emphasis on cinematic and atmospheric orchestration, ethereal, melodious vocals, and intense emotional depth.

“I think I just always wanted to stay as authentically me as possible. I’ve had a lot of pressuring to make other kinds of music, but ultimately, I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy the songwriting and recording process nearly as much if I wasn’t able to write from my heart and soul.”

Kaiza’s music has already amassed more than a million streams and she has thousands of listeners and followers on her music and social media platforms.

As for the future, Kaiza says: “Continuing to feel happy and fulfilled in life is the biggest thing for me. Music is a huge part of what contributes to that feeling for me, so I’m extremely grateful to be doing what I love so much.”

Kaiza’s music is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major music streaming platforms.
