How Young Volunteers Are Transforming Patient Care in Monaco

Throughout the year, volunteers from the Monegasque Red Cross (Croix-Rouge monégasque) maintain a steady presence at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace), providing listening, comfort, and companionship to hospitalized patients.

Beyond routine visits, the organization routinely conducts targeted outreach initiatives. In a recent effort, approximately 15 young volunteers participated in a workshop where they decorated ceramic vases and presented them as gifts to patients. The initiative offered patients more than handmade ceramics; it created a deliberate space for conversation, active listening, and shared warmth during hospital stays.

This activity reflects the expanding range of opportunities provided to youth volunteers and highlights an ongoing, year-round collaboration between the Monegasque Red Cross and the Princess Grace Hospital Centre. In clinical settings where treatment often focuses strictly on medical outcomes, brief moments of human connection and attentive care continue to play a meaningful role in brightening a patient's day.
