OIO REGION, Guinea-Bissau — A sustainable agriculture initiative supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is helping communities in the Oio region adapt to climate challenges through locally developed farming practices. The project, led by Univers-Sel, places women at the forefront of the transition to climate-resilient agriculture.

The program focuses on accessible and locally adapted techniques designed to protect both livelihoods and the environment. Organizers say these practices enhance productivity, preserve ecosystems and can reduce emissions by up to 99 percent.

By combining environmental protection with economic resilience, the project illustrates how nature-based solutions can address the dual pressures of climate change and rural poverty. The approach also emphasizes women-led resilience, positioning female farmers as central actors in the adoption of sustainable land-use practices.

The initiative reflects a broader trend toward integrating community development with climate action, using agricultural methods that respond to local needs while contributing to global sustainability goals.
