In Yaoundé, Young Monégasques Join Global Debates on Sovereignty and Democratic Civic Engagement

YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon - In an era defined by geopolitical fragmentation and digital polarization, youth representation in international parliamentary forums offers a vital avenue for diplomatic continuity and democratic renewal.

Representing the Principality of Monaco at the 11th edition of the Youth Francophone Parliament (Parlement francophone des jeunes) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Alyssa Rinaldi and Elijah Mierczuk engaged alongside peers from across the French-speaking world. Held alongside the 51st Session of the Assembly of the Francophonie (Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie), the summit focused on critical global issues, including climate displacement, social media misinformation, democratic engagement, and humanitarian action.

Accompanying the youth delegation were Marine Hugonnet-Grisoul, President of Monaco's delegation to the APF and official spokesperson, and Jade Aureglia, Vice-President of the Environment and Quality of Life Commission. In a plenary address before international parliamentarians, Ms. Hugonnet-Grisoul underscored that national sovereignty in the modern world requires active multilateral participation rather than isolation. "To be sovereign is not to isolate oneself," she stated. “It is to be able to make one's voice heard and contribute freely to drafting common solutions.”

The delegation's presence highlights a growing trend in Monégasque governance: integrating younger generations directly into international policy discussions, reinforcing the Principality’s active role across global Francophone institutions.
