In a bid to modernize and streamline waste management in Monaco’s harbour, the Société d’exploitation des ports de Monaco has announced the "Chicane" project, inspired by the iconic Grand Prix corner. This initiative will connect yachts directly to Monaco’s wastewater network, significantly enhancing the port’s infrastructure. Set to be operational within two years, the Chicane pontoon will provide a free, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution for waste disposal.
Monaco’s harbour currently offers 760 berths equipped with a range of services, including fresh water, electricity (220V / 380V), paid WIFI, and grey water collectors on selected platforms. Additional amenities include 12 showers and 20 bathrooms. Waste management is presently handled by floating barges that service boats, removing waste volumes ranging from 5 to 10,000 litres per vessel as a paid service.
The Chicane project aims to replace the current waste disposal method with a state-of-the-art pressurized vacuum system that will connect to Monaco's public wastewater network at no cost to boat owners. This new system promises to be more reliable and environmentally friendly, marking a significant advancement in the harbour’s infrastructure.
The Chicane project represents the latest in a series of improvements aimed at maintaining Monaco’s status as a premier destination for yachts and luxury vessels. By integrating advanced waste management systems and continuing to enhance port facilities, Monaco is poised to set new standards in maritime excellence and environmental sustainability.
