Jiva Hill Resort: A Luxury Retreat Near Geneva

Just minutes from Geneva, nestled between the Jura Mountains and the majestic Mont Blanc, one of the world's most iconic mountain peaks and a defining symbol of the Alps, Jiva Hill Resort offers a distinctive way to experience the French countryside.

There is a particular pleasure in discovering a place that feels far removed from everyday life without requiring a long journey to reach it. At Jiva Hill Resort, just 15 minutes from Geneva Airport, the transition begins almost as soon as the road gives way to open countryside. Spread across 123 acres near the foothills of the Jura Mountains, this five-star Relais & Châteaux property offers a compelling reason to linger on the French side of the Swiss border.

The setting is the first attraction, but it is far from the only one. Jiva Hill has the makings of a destination in its own right, bringing together thoughtful design, art, gastronomy, sport and a wellness offering that encourages guests to forget about the time.

A landscape that shapes the experience

The resort draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the history of the former farm on which it stands. Inspired by the understated character of South African lodges, the architecture brings together wood, metal and natural textures, allowing each structure to sit effortlessly within the landscape. The 50 rooms and suites are arranged across several buildings, offering a sense of space and privacy rarely associated with conventional hotels.

The interiors have evolved considerably since the resort opened in 2007. Under the direction of architect Cristina Gherardi Benardeau, the redesign has brought a warmer, more intimate character to the property. Walnut, smoked oak, concrete and natural fabrics create a tactile backdrop, while shades of cream, copper and rust echo the colours of the surrounding countryside.

There is little unnecessary decoration. Vintage finds sit alongside bespoke furniture, carefully considered lighting softens the rooms, and generous windows keep the landscape firmly in view. The result feels polished without being formal, luxurious without losing its sense of ease.

Outside, the gardens have been reworked to embrace a more natural, spontaneous character. On the terrace, the views towards Mont Blanc provide an ever-changing backdrop, whether for a leisurely breakfast or an aperitif as the light fades over the mountains.

Two restaurants, two culinary identities

At the heart of Jiva Hill's appeal is its dining scene, which moves between French gastronomic tradition and the flavours of Italy.

At Jiva Hill, executive chef Jean-François Vasseur brings a refined and subtle approach to gastronomy, creating dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients, exceptional local produce and the artisans behind them. Raised in a farming family in northern France, he developed an early appreciation for the quality and authenticity of raw ingredients — a philosophy that remains at the heart of his cuisine. Working closely with carefully selected producers from the surrounding region, he champions everything from fresh fish and locally sourced vegetables to artisanal cheeses, regional honey and freshly baked bread.

Here French culinary traditions meet a contemporary spirit of creativity, with each dish revealing a thoughtful interplay of flavours, textures and unexpected pairings. Line-caught pollock from Brittany is paired with celeriac infused with coffee and toasted hazelnuts, while trout from the Saint-Germain-en-Joux fish farm is served with creamy onions and a delicate watercress butter sauce. Among the meat dishes, Bresse poultry is reimagined through a combination of roasted breast, crispy thigh croquettes and parsnip mousseline, while roasted venison in a fir-infused crust evokes the woodland landscapes of the Jura.

The same attention to detail extends to the desserts, overseen by pastry chef Lionel Haubard. Classic French inspirations are given an imaginative twist, from a Tatin-style apple dessert with green apple coulis and walnut oil to dark chocolate paired with pecan praline and sweet potato. Seasonal fruit, aromatic herbs and carefully balanced flavours bring a delicate finish to the meal.

With a selection of dining experiences, including a tasting menu, the Menu 360 and a market-inspired menu, Le Jiva invites guests to discover the chef's cuisine at their own pace.

Le Jardin offers a different mood, bringing the warmth and generosity of Italian gastronomy to the heart of Jiva Hill. The restaurant celebrates the culinary traditions of Italy through a menu that balances authentic regional recipes with a contemporary touch. Carefully selected ingredients from French and Italian producers shape dishes inspired by the country’s diverse culinary landscapes, from Puglian tomatoes and Apulian extra-virgin olive oil to Italian charcuterie, artisanal cheeses and fresh seasonal produce.

The menu invites guests to explore a variety of Italian specialities, beginning with antipasti such as aubergine parmigiana with Puglian tomato sauce and aged Parmesan, or Mediterranean bluefin tuna accompanied by black garlic mayonnaise and a delicate dashi broth. For the main course, handmade-style linguine with sautéed king prawns, fresh tomatoes and house-made bottarga sits alongside dishes such as Jura trout with cauliflower, broccoletti and a lemon butter sauce delicately infused with Prosecco. Roman-style pizzas are another highlight, made with Italian flour and dough slowly fermented for 72 hours, resulting in a light texture and depth of flavour.

The experience continues with a tempting selection of Italian-inspired desserts, from classic tiramisu made with organic Arabica coffee to pistachio and raspberry creations by pastry chef Lionel Haubard. An extensive wine list, featuring prestigious labels from regions including Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto and Sicily, completes the experience, inviting guests to discover the diversity of Italy’s vineyards.

Light-filled dining rooms overlook either the Haut-Jura landscape or a tranquil Japanese garden, creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to linger over lunch or dinner..

Room to play, space to unwind

For an active escape, the resort's facilities are unusually extensive. Golfers can take to the nine-hole course, which features 18 tee positions, or practise year-round at the indoor golf centre, opened in March 2025. Four TrackMan simulators bring some of the world's most celebrated courses within reach, whatever the weather. Two tennis courts, cycling routes and nearby mountain trails add further possibilities, while water skiing and wakeboarding offer a change of pace in warmer months.

Equestrian pursuits bring another dimension to the experience. Guests can admire horses at the resort's private stables and, on the right occasion, witness them being led out. The impressive equestrian arena also hosts international events, offering a glimpse into the world of competitive horse riding. For a gentler encounter with the countryside, a stroll from the hotel reveals picturesque mountain views and leads to the resort's small farm, home to friendly goats and ponies.

SPA and Wellbeing

The spa provides an equally convincing reason to stay put. An indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool with massage jets, a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and Sothys treatments form the basis of a comprehensive wellness offering. For those wishing to maintain their fitness routine, a fully equipped gym caters to a variety of workouts, from cardio sessions to strength training, making it easy to balance relaxation with an active approach to well-being.

For something more elemental, a private Nordic ritual alternates a plunge into cold water with restorative warmth in a Canadian red cedar cabin.

There is also a more playful side to the resort. Le Tripot, a vintage-inspired games room, houses billiards, darts, pinball and a classic jukebox. At L'Éden, a private cinema screens a selection of international films, making a quiet evening indoors feel like an occasion. Throughout the property, a collection of more than 200 artworks introduces another dimension, with contemporary pieces exploring the relationship between nature and the city.

Families are equally well catered for, with spacious family suites, dedicated children's spa treatments, age-appropriate sports lessons and holiday activities. From encounters with the farm animals to time spent outdoors, younger guests have plenty to discover, while adults can still find moments of quiet.

A lighter footprint, a longer view

Jiva Hill's relationship with its surroundings extends beyond aesthetics. Geothermal heat pumps and photovoltaic panels contribute to its energy supply, while rainwater recovery, improved insulation and reduced reliance on single-use plastics support its environmental approach. The resort has also adapted its landscaping and golf facilities to limit water consumption and the use of crop-protection products.

These efforts reflect a broader ambition to make Jiva Hill more than a place to stay — a destination that lives in harmony with its surroundings while continually finding new ways to surprise and inspire its guests.

With its anniversary celebrations on the horizon next year, the hotel is preparing to enter an exciting new chapter, with a host of new discoveries, thoughtful enhancements and fresh experiences set to enrich its offering.

Whatever the season, Jiva Hill promises a compelling reason to escape. Spring brings the landscape back to life, summer invites long days outdoors, autumn paints the Jura in rich, changing colours, and winter transforms the surrounding mountains into a cozy retreat.

Close to Geneva yet wonderfully removed from the everyday, Jiva Hill is a destination to return to throughout the year — and, with a new chapter about to unfold, one with even more to look forward to.
