Monaco is preparing for a major moment in its sporting calendar as La Vuelta 2026 arrives on the Riviera. From 20 to 23 August, the Principality will host the Grand Départ of one of cycling’s three prestigious Grand Tours, bringing four days of racing, ceremonies and cycling excitement to the streets of Monaco.
The event begins on Thursday 20 August with the official presentation of the teams and riders, offering spectators the chance to see the peloton up close before the competition begins. Friday will serve as a preparation day, ahead of the first stage on Saturday.
Saturday: The Monaco Time Trial
The highlight comes on Saturday 22 August, when riders take on an individual time trial entirely within Monaco. Starting at Place du Casino, the route will pass through some of the Principality’s most recognisable locations, including the Moulins district, the Fairmont hairpin, Larvotto, Port Hercule, Port de Fontvieille and Stade Louis II.
The stage will finish on the famous Formula 1 start/finish straight on Boulevard Albert Ier, creating a striking meeting point between Monaco’s two great sporting traditions.
Sunday: The Race Heads to France
On Sunday 23 August, Stage 2 begins with a ceremonial roll-out from Place du Palais Princier. The official race start follows at the Exotic Garden, with the peloton leaving Monaco and heading towards Manosque, France.
Where to Watch
For spectators hoping to catch the action, recommended viewing areas include Place du Casino, Port Hercule, Fontvieille, Larvotto and the Stade Louis II area.
The race will bring temporary road closures, diversions and changes to public transport. The Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM) will offer free bus travel on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August. Several routes and stops will be affected on Saturday, while Sunday services should operate normally with some short delays.
With thousands expected to gather along the route, planning ahead will be essential. For anyone in Monaco that weekend, La Vuelta promises a rare opportunity to experience a world-class cycling event against one of the most spectacular backdrops in the sport.
