Residents and visitors looking forward to soaking up the sun at Larvotto Beach this spring will need to adjust their plans. Due to scheduled reprofilage works aimed at preparing the beach for the summer season, swimming will be prohibited from April 15 to May 3, 2024.
The initiative seeks to adjust the beach's slope that has intensified over the winter months. The goal is to restore a suitable morphology to the beach, ensuring it can accommodate the expected influx of visitors and enhance access security to swimming zones. Despite the swimming ban, parts of the beach will remain accessible for those wishing to enjoy the sun, depending on the progress of the day's work which will take place from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Moreover, the restaurants and shops within the complex are set to stay open throughout this period.
To mitigate the environmental impact, the government plans to install retention nets in the water, each extending 120 meters to protect the adjacent marine reserve from sediments stirred up by the beach profiling.
It's also planned that throughout the season, regular maintenance will be conducted to preserve the beach's width and gentle declivity. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that the beach's beauty and usability are maintained without necessitating further closures.
This renovation is part of Monaco's ongoing commitment to enhancing its coastal offerings while balancing environmental preservation with tourist and local needs.
