Big changes are on the horizon for Monaco’s iconic Louis-II Stadium. The famous yellow seats that have defined the venue for decades will soon be replaced by modern red and white ones — a vibrant tribute to AS Monaco’s historic colours.
The long-anticipated update was confirmed by Minister of State Christophe Mirmand during a public session of the National Council. He revealed that the design, personally selected by Prince Albert II, will feature a red-and-white mosaic pattern spread across the stands, with subtle layering in the red sections to create depth and movement. “We hope to see these seats as little as possible on match days — a full stadium is always the best sign of success,” joked Mirmand.
Beyond aesthetics, the project also brings innovation. The stands housing the club’s most passionate supporters — the “populaire” and “pesage” sections — will soon be equipped with retractable seats. This will allow fans to stand during football matches in the traditional “kop style,” bringing Monaco closer to the dynamic atmosphere of major European arenas. For other events, like the annual Herculis athletics meeting, the seats can be folded back into place to accommodate a seated audience.
This renovation marks an important step in the broader modernisation programme for the stadium, originally inaugurated in 1985. The new seating installation represents both a visual and symbolic renewal — a celebration of AS Monaco’s proud identity and the Principality’s sporting heritage.
Work has already begun, with the transformation set to unfold in phases until May 2027. Once complete, the Louis-II Stadium will stand as a striking blend of tradition and modernity, uniting fans, athletes, and visitors under the red-and-white banner that defines Monaco’s sporting spirit.
