The international classical music community is mourning the loss of Maestro Antonino Fogliani, a distinguished Italian conductor renowned for his profound mastery of the bel canto repertoire and the works of Gioachino Rossini. The Opéra de Monte-Carlo joined major European institutions in expressing profound sorrow over his passing, remembering a career defined by artistic virtuosity and deep dedication to the lyric stage.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than two decades, Maestro Fogliani forged a close artistic relationship with the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, leaving an indelible mark through notable productions that included Puccini’s La Bohème in 2010, Bellini’s La Sonnambula in 2013, and Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda in 2016.
Beyond the Principality, his career took him to the podiums of the world's most prestigious opera houses and festivals, including Teatro alla Scala, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, and a long-standing association as Music Director of the Rossini in Wildbad Festival in Germany. Colleagues and cultural institutions alike have paid tribute to his meticulous musicianship, sensitive collaboration with vocalists, and relentless advocacy for both standard masterpieces and rare 19th-century scores.
