The culinary brilliance of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur has earned it a spot as one of France's top three regions with the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants, affirming its appeal as a prime destination for food enthusiasts. As the 2025 Michelin Guide ceremony approaches, a new study by Preply reveals the regions leading in gastronomic excellence, including Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
Top Starred Regions: Île-de-France and Beyond
Unsurprisingly, Île-de-France, home to the bustling culinary landscape of Paris and surrounding areas like Versailles, leads the way with 137 starred establishments. It’s closely followed by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a region celebrated for its rich flavors, mountain cheeses, and chefs like Anne-Sophie Pic, whose refined dishes marry tradition with innovation.
Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur: Mediterranean Magic
Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur ranks third, with 81 Michelin-starred venues. The region's vibrant, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine is on full display at restaurants like the three-star Mirazur in Menton, famous for its use of local ingredients like fresh fish and citrus. Other esteemed dining spots include La Chèvre d’Or and Château Eza in Eze, Hostellerie Jérôme in La Turbie, and Flaveur in Nice, all exemplifying the culinary essence of the Riviera.
Monaco’s Haute Cuisine: A Global Highlight
The Principality of Monaco continues to be a beacon for fine dining, hosting nine Michelin stars across six prestigious restaurants. Among them are Louis XV by Alain Ducasse at the Hôtel de Paris and Blue Bay at Monte-Carlo Bay, helmed by Marcel Ravin. Newcomer Les Ambassadeurs, led by Chef Christophe Cussac, made waves this year by earning two stars within months of its opening.
With its array of exceptional dining, France’s starred establishments continue to reinforce the nation’s reputation as a global gastronomic capital, drawing visitors and bolstering the local economy.
