Monaco has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and the urgent reform of the World Health Organization (WHO) as the international community navigates a period of significant global instability. From May 18 to 23, 2026, a Monégasque delegation, led by Minister of Health and Social Affairs Christophe Robino and accompanied by H.E. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, attended the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
Under the theme "Redefining Global Health: A Shared Responsibility," Mr. Robino addressed a global context marked by unprecedented conflicts that are testing the foundations of the international order. In his remarks, he advocated for an ambitious reform of the WHO to ensure the organization can respond to universal health needs with greater clarity, agility, and impact, while reaffirming the Principality’s constant commitment to the WHO and multilateralism.
During the assembly, Monaco prioritized discussions on the management of sanitary emergency situations, the role of health within the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and pressing mental health issues. The delegation also participated in side events, including a dedicated session on the mental health of youth in the era of social media, which contributed to ongoing reflections currently being led by the Princely Government on this issue of major importance.
