Monaco and Bolivia Forge New Diplomatic Alliance

On July 26, the Principality of Monaco officially expanded its global network by establishing diplomatic relations with the Plurinational State of Bolivia. This new partnership marks an important milestone as it becomes Monaco’s 160th diplomatic alliance. The historic signing ceremony took place in New York, where H.E. Mr. Diego Pary Rodriguez, the Ambassador of Bolivia, and H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco, the Ambassador of Monaco, formally endorsed the joint communiqué.

Bolivia, a landlocked country in South America, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and diverse population. With 36 official languages, including Spanish and indigenous languages like Quechua and Aymara, Bolivia stands as one of the most multilingual nations in the world. This linguistic diversity reflects the country’s multi-ethnic makeup, which includes a blend of indigenous, mestizo, and European influences.

During the signing ceremony, both Ambassadors highlighted the crucial role of culture and multilingualism in fostering deeper international understanding and cooperation. Ambassador Picco noted that Monaco’s commitment to cultural diplomacy aligns closely with Bolivia’s values, particularly in the areas of preserving linguistic diversity and promoting intercultural dialogue.

Ambassador Pary Rodriguez echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Bolivia’s dedication to strengthening ties with countries that share its commitment to multiculturalism and global cooperation. He also pointed out that this new diplomatic relationship comes at a pivotal time, as the international community prepares for significant discussions at the United Nations. The upcoming Future Summit and the negotiations surrounding the Compact on the Future are expected to address pressing global challenges, and both Monaco and Bolivia are keen to contribute to these dialogues.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between Monaco and Bolivia not only opens new avenues for bilateral cooperation but also reinforces the shared values of cultural preservation and international dialogue. As Monaco continues to expand its diplomatic reach, this new partnership with Bolivia highlights the importance of fostering connections across diverse cultures and regions. Through this alliance, both nations aim to contribute meaningfully to global efforts in promoting peace, understanding, and sustainable development on the international stage.
