On June 11 and 12, 2024, a delegation from Monaco attended the 10th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The delegation included H.E. Anne-Marie BOISBOUVIER, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Monaco to UNESCO, diplomats from Monaco’s UNESCO mission, and Julien CELLARIO, Head of Heritage Operations at the Monaco Heritage Institute.
During the two-day session, the participating states addressed issues related to safeguarding "living heritage" worldwide and the implementation of the Convention.
Key agenda items included reports from the Intergovernmental Committee and the Secretariat on their activities in 2022 and 2023, the resource utilization plan for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund for 2024 and 2025, the accreditation of new non-governmental organizations, the report on the 20th anniversary celebration of the Convention in 2023, and the election of twelve new Committee members.
The twelve new Committee members elected by acclamation on June 11 are Algeria, Barbados, China, United Arab Emirates, Spain, France, Haiti, Nigeria, Uganda, Dominican Republic, Ukraine, and Zambia.
Monaco has been a party to the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage since June 4, 2007, and is one of the donor countries to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, which assists States Parties in their safeguarding efforts. To date, 183 states are parties to this Convention.
