This Tuesday, the municipal council announced the upcoming establishment of an "ethics and internal regulations commission," following the recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (Greco), as stated by Mayor Georges Marsan.
Following the government and the National Council, it is now the municipal council's turn to announce the creation of this commission. During a public session, it was specified that this new entity will be responsible for defining the ethical principles applicable to elected officials, preventing conflicts of interest, and managing asset declarations.
Georges Marsan confirmed that the creation of this commission is a response to recommendations issued by Greco. This initiative precedes his indictment in December 2023 for alleged acts of influence peddling and corruption. Regarding the urgency of establishing this commission, Marsan explained: "We did not have internal regulations. International institutions are encouraging Greco to ask the various bodies in Monaco, such as the government or the National Council, to implement it according to a specific timeline. We, the municipalities, are required to comply by 2025. We anticipated this recommendation before the recent events at City Hall. The government informed me last summer that Greco's recommendations did not yet apply but would be mandatory by 2025."
Elected officials Marjorie Crovetto, Chloé Boscagli-Leclercq, Camille Svara, Nada Lorenzi, Jean-Luc Puyo, and Mayor Georges Marsan have been appointed as members of this commission.
