Monaco recently marked a significant milestone—30 years of diplomatic relations with China—at a spectacular Chinese New Year gala held at the prestigious Fairmont Monte-Carlo. The event seamlessly blended tradition, diplomacy, and cultural exchange, reaffirming the strong and evolving partnership between the two nations.
Organized by the Monaco-China Association and Monaco Dragon Prestige, with the backing of Monaco’s Embassy in China, the evening was a vibrant tribute to three decades of collaboration. The Grand Salon of the Fairmont was transformed into a stage for cultural immersion, where guests were treated to a captivating cocktail reception featuring Chinese calligraphy demonstrations. The festivities continued with a mesmerizing Dragon Dance, live musical performances, and a bilingual choir from Collège Charles III singing beloved Chinese songs. A breathtaking showcase by the AI Danse Paris troupe further added to the evening’s artistic brilliance.
As traditional Chinese instruments, the Sheng and Guzhen, filled the air with their melodic harmonies, Monaco’s Ambassador to China, Marie-Pascale Boisson, delivered an inspiring speech. She paid homage to the deep-rooted relationship between Monaco and China, reflecting on their shared achievements and the promising road ahead. Acknowledging the recent passing of Monaco’s Minister of State, Didier Guillaume, she emphasized the resilience of diplomatic ties and highlighted key accomplishments from 2024, including tourism revitalization, visa exemptions for Monegasque travelers, and the Monte-Carlo Ballet’s acclaimed performance in Shanghai.
Adding to the evening’s significance, Shi Yuli, acting Consul General of China in Marseille, addressed the attendees, describing the longstanding friendship between Monaco and China as a bridge uniting two distinct cultures. He underscored the growing economic and cultural exchanges between the nations, noting that trade volumes had increased fifteenfold over the years. He also celebrated the recent recognition of the Spring Festival as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, reinforcing its universal importance.
