On June 15 and 16, 2026, the Principality of Monaco served as the host for a meeting of the Orientation Council of the Institute of the Francophonie for Sustainable Development (IFDD).
The IFDD, a subsidiary body of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), is tasked with implementing the Francophonie’s priorities regarding sustainable development. The primary mandate of the Orientation Council is to review activity reports, identify emerging issues, and determine priorities within the Francophone space, ultimately formulating strategic recommendations to guide the Institute's future programming.
Monaco, a long-standing partner of the IFDD, participated in the sessions in an observer capacity.
During the gathering, attendees reviewed the current status of the IFDD’s programming, with a specific focus on the "Francophone Sustainable Finance Platform". Launched on June 5, 2026, in recognition of World Environment Day, the platform was developed with support from the Princely Government. Its objective is to streamline access to international climate and biodiversity financing for actors within the Francophone community.
In addition to financial frameworks, the Council’s agenda included a technical session on the role of artificial intelligence in environmental preservation. Members engaged in discussions regarding the potential opportunities that these emerging technologies might offer to countries within the Francophone sphere.
