As cooler days return, Monaco’s health authorities are calling on residents to strengthen their immunity ahead of the winter season. On Wednesday, October 15, the Department of Health and Social Affairs officially launched its annual vaccination campaign — this time with a practical innovation: both the flu and Covid-19 vaccines can now be administered during the same appointment.
The dual vaccination option aims to simplify the process and increase participation among those most at risk. Both shots can be given safely, as long as they are injected in different areas of the body. Starting tomorrow, all pharmacies in the Principality will stock the vaccines. Individuals can choose to be vaccinated directly at the pharmacy or purchase their doses and visit their doctor or nurse for administration. A prescription remains necessary for the Covid vaccine when given by a nurse.
This year’s campaign primarily targets vulnerable groups, including people aged over 65, those living with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and individuals with obesity. Residents of healthcare and social institutions are also strongly encouraged to participate. Health experts emphasize that early vaccination is crucial, as the body requires several weeks to develop optimal protection — and flu viruses typically begin circulating by late October.
To encourage widespread participation, the government has ensured that both vaccinations are fully reimbursed through Monaco’s social security system. This measure underscores the Principality’s commitment to preventive healthcare and public well-being.
The vaccines distributed this season are specifically adapted to the most recent viral strains identified across Europe, reflecting ongoing research and monitoring of global health trends. By combining efficiency, accessibility, and scientific precision, Monaco reaffirms its proactive approach to protecting the health of its residents ahead of the winter months.
