This November, as part of Monaco’s ninth “Month Without Tobacco,” a groundbreaking initiative is underway: Monaco’s first national lung cancer screening campaign. This health-focused drive targets Monegasque nationals and employees over 50 covered by the Monegasque social security system, offering them the opportunity to undergo a complimentary lung scan. Each eligible individual will receive a letter inviting them to participate in this initiative.
Free Screenings for Monegasque Citizens and Employees Over 50
Lung cancer, among the most lethal forms of the disease, often goes undetected until it reaches an advanced stage. However, early diagnosis can significantly improve the odds of successful treatment and recovery. Christophe Robino, Minister for Health and Social Affairs, expressed the government’s commitment to promoting health and preventive care, stating that timely screenings are essential to improving health outcomes for the Principality’s residents and workforce.
A crucial aspect of this campaign is its emphasis on educating the public about the dangers of smoking. By encouraging Monegasque citizens to stop smoking and seek regular health screenings, Monaco hopes to reduce the prevalence of lung cancer. The data gathered through this screening program will also inform future health policies, providing a foundation for prevention and better treatments in the Principality.
Organized by the Health Action Department (DASA) in partnership with Princess Grace Hospital, this screening initiative is entirely free of charge, underlining Monaco’s dedication to accessible healthcare. The program not only highlights the value of early detection but also reinforces the importance of healthy lifestyle choices for all.
