Monaco Marks 20 Years Since Tribute to Prince Rainier III as Circus Festival Opens

The 48th International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo opens tonight under the Chapiteau de Fontvieille, launching ten days of world-class performances from 16 to 25 January 2026.

Founded in 1974 by Prince Rainier III to champion and elevate the circus arts on the global stage, the festival remains one of Monaco’s most anticipated cultural events.

This year’s opening coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the 2006 edition, which was dedicated to Prince Rainier III following his death in 2005 and featured an outstanding programme as a tribute to his enduring passion for the circus.
