The Principality of Monaco is preparing for a historic religious moment on Saturday, March 28, 2026, when His Holiness Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to undertake an apostolic visit to the country, according to a program released by the official account of the Prince’s Palace.
The one-day visit will combine official ceremonies with spiritual encounters, marking what the palace described as a significant moment in Monaco’s history. While Pope Paul III was received on the Rock in 1538, the March 28 visit is presented as the first apostolic journey of a pope to Monaco in the contemporary era.
Upon arrival, the pontiff will be welcomed by Albert II and Charlene before being received in audience at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. Following the meeting, the Sovereign Prince and Pope Leo XIV, accompanied by Princess Charlene, are expected to greet the public gathered on the palace square from the balcony.

The pope will then travel by popemobile to the Monaco Cathedral, where he will meet members of the Catholic community alongside the Princely Couple and Archbishop Dominique-Marie David. The program also includes a visit to Church of Sainte-Dévote for an exchange with young people, followed by a meeting with catechumens.
The day is scheduled to conclude with a public Mass presided over by the pontiff at the Stade Louis II, in the presence of the Princely Family, civil and religious authorities, and the faithful.
