The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation supports SeaSafe, a drowning-prevention programme launched in 2013 through a partnership between the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the Center for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB). Operating in the coastal areas of Cox’s Bazar, the initiative focuses on reducing drowning risk among residents and visitors.
SeaSafe delivers four core services: 24/7 lifeguard patrols on selected beaches, community water-safety education, targeted beach safety information for tourists, and free swimming lessons for children aged 6-10. Tourist outreach highlights dangers such as rip currents and tidal changes while stressing the importance of swimming only in lifeguarded zones. The children’s programme teaches basic swimming skills, builds confidence and instils essential water-safety awareness.
The project forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing international commitment to water safety and drowning prevention.
