Monaco is set to mark a significant moment in the evolution of its healthcare system as the new building of the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) is officially handed over to hospital management on 1 July 2026.
The transfer represents the culmination of a decade-long construction project and the beginning of a carefully planned transition phase before the facility welcomes its first patients. Rather than an immediate opening, the coming months will be dedicated to extensive testing, certification and staff preparation to ensure every system operates safely and efficiently.
Construction of the new hospital building began in 2016 and has become one of the Principality’s most ambitious public infrastructure projects. Covering 40,000 square metres, the facility is designed to modernise healthcare services and meet the growing needs of Monaco’s population. At the peak of construction, as many as 700 workers were involved on site.
Government officials have emphasised that the handover marks only the start of the next stage. Hospital teams will progressively move into the building during a “marche à blanc” period—a comprehensive dry-run phase during which medical, technical and logistical systems will be tested under real-life conditions before patients are admitted.
For Monaco, the new CHPG represents far more than a new building. It is a cornerstone of the Principality’s long-term healthcare strategy, aimed at enhancing patient care, improving medical infrastructure and ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Health Minister Christophe Robino described the project as a key pillar of Monaco’s healthcare future, highlighting the extensive collaboration between government departments, healthcare professionals and hospital management throughout the development process.
The new building forms the first phase of a wider transformation of the Princess Grace Hospital Centre. The full redevelopment programme is expected to continue through to 2032, creating a state-of-the-art medical campus that will serve residents and visitors for generations to come.
With the handover now imminent, Monaco moves one step closer to opening one of the most advanced healthcare facilities in the region.
