UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK - Speaking on behalf of the Principality during the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, held on June 22 and 23, 2026, Ms. Daphné Le Son, Deputy Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations, reaffirmed her nation’s ongoing dedication to eradicating the disease.
Addressing international delegates, Ms. Le Son highlighted Monaco’s nearly two decades of support for UNAIDS and noted the Principality’s recent increase in its voluntary contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She emphasized the critical role played by community-based organizations, whose local presence and expertise remain indispensable in crafting responses tailored to the specific needs of populations on the ground.
In her remarks, Ms. Le Son underscored the essential need to maintain a human rights-based framework in global health policy. She cautioned that discrimination, social stigma, and gender-based violence continue to present major obstacles to prevention, testing, and healthcare access for individuals living with HIV and vulnerable populations most at risk.
Through its address, Monaco expressed full alignment with the recommendations of the United Nations Secretary-General and renewed its commitment to collaborate with global partners to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, in accordance with the target set by the international community.
