As summer temperatures continue to pose environmental and public health challenges across the region, local humanitarian efforts have increasingly turned toward proactive intervention. In an initiative designed to safeguard the community’s most vulnerable demographics, the Monaco Red Cross (Croix-Rouge Monégasque) recently convened a specialized preventative workshop focusing on the management and mitigation of heatwave-related risks.
The session, organized specifically for senior citizens supported by the organization’s Social Service division, aimed to instill critical safety reflexes ahead of prolonged seasonal heatwaves. Organizers emphasized that adopting robust preventative habits remains an absolute priority as high summer temperatures become more frequent.
The workshop utilized an interactive format, blending practical advice with educational quizzes designed to test participants’ knowledge of heat safety. To demonstrate accessible hydration methods, the session featured a tasting of homemade flavored waters, showcasing how seniors can maintain necessary fluid intake without relying on manufactured or sugary beverages. Additionally, each attendee was equipped with a dedicated heatwave prevention kit (kit canicule), providing immediate, tangible resources to manage rising temperatures at home.

Characterized by organizers as a convivial and communal gathering, the event underscored the social dimension of public health outreach - combining vital education with community solidarity.
According to representatives from the Monaco Red Cross, this workshop represents only the initial phase of a broader, multi-generational summer campaign. The organization has announced that its next directive will focus on outreach to younger beneficiaries, ensuring that the same critical behavioral reflexes during extreme heat episodes are established across all age groups within the Principality.
