Monaco is preparing to overhaul its public television landscape with the launch of a new, unified TV channel in September 2025. This exciting initiative will see the merging of two existing entities, Monaco Info and TV Monaco, into one streamlined platform, signaling the Principality's departure from the international TV5 Monde network.
The move follows comments by Prince Albert II during Monaco’s National Day celebrations, where he emphasized the difficulties in managing two channels with similar content. "We are too small to have two separate channels competing on the same subjects," the Prince remarked, highlighting the need for consolidation.
During a December National Council Assembly, Monaco’s Minister of State confirmed the plan, outlining the creation of a new, independent public channel that will be self-sustaining through a combination of public and private funding, including advertising revenue. The channel will be governed by a professional board of directors, ensuring its independence from government influence.
Geneviève Berti, Monaco’s Director of Communication, has been appointed to lead the transition. Starting in January 2025, her team will work on integrating the two existing channels and managing Monaco’s exit from TV5 Monde, in which the Principality holds a 5.3% stake. The new platform will make use of TV Monaco’s advanced technical capabilities, setting the stage for a fresh start in the country’s public broadcasting efforts.
The yet-to-be-named channel will be a significant milestone in Monaco’s media landscape, offering more cohesive and efficient public broadcasting for both residents and global audiences alike.
