On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Monaco marked its National Day at the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai with a vibrant display of cultural pride and forward-looking ideals. The event, held at the prestigious Universal Exposition, welcomed H.S.H. Prince Albert II, H.S.H. Princess Stephanie, Ms. Pauline Ducruet, Ms. Camille Gottlieb, and Mr. Louis and Mrs. Marie Ducruet, who led the Monegasque delegation in a ceremony that blended tradition with a commitment to a sustainable future.
The morning began with a time-honored Japanese tea ceremony in one of the Host House’s elegant salons. Centered on the preparation and tasting of matcha, this ritual encapsulated the essence of Japanese culture—a harmonious blend of aesthetics, spirituality, and mindfulness. For the Monegasque delegation, it was a moment to connect with their hosts through a shared appreciation for heritage and precision.

The festivities continued at the National Day Hall, where the Prince’s Carabinieri Orchestra performed a stirring aubade, heralding the arrival of the Monegasque delegation alongside H.I.R.H. Princess Hisako of Takamado. The national anthems of Monaco and Japan rang out, and the flags of both nations were raised, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two countries. The ceremony was a testament to the mutual respect and shared values that have long defined their relationship.
Official remarks followed, delivered by Mr. Koji Haneda, Commissioner General of Expo 2025, and H.S.H. Prince Albert II. In his address, the Prince highlighted Monaco’s active participation in the Exposition through its pavilion, “Take Care of Wonder.” He emphasized the pavilion’s vision of a collective, sustainable future, rooted in environmental preservation, international cooperation, and a profound connection between humanity and nature. The message resonated with the Expo’s overarching theme of designing a better tomorrow.
