Monaco United’s remarkable season reached a new milestone this Sunday as the club secured its place in the Marenco Cup final after a 4-0 victory over AS Cannes. The win keeps the side on course for a historic triple objective, adding to their recent district championship title and their upcoming appearance in the Mediterranean Cup final.
Entering the semi-final against a Cannes side that plays one level higher in the regional division, Monaco United faced the challenge without several regular starters. However, the squad, led by Marco Simone, maintained its tactical identity through cohesive play that has become a hallmark of their recent campaign.
The opening half was a study in frustration for the visitors. Despite dominating possession and creating several clear chances, Monaco United was unable to break through a compact Cannes defense and an in-form goalkeeper, heading into the locker room at halftime level at 0-0.
The deadlock was broken immediately following the restart. Responding to Simone’s halftime instructions to remain composed, captain Rachel Robert opened the scoring after a fluid team move. The goal shifted the momentum decisively; Sarah Magnier subsequently extended the lead with a brace, and Robert added a second goal late in the match to finalize the scoreline.
Monaco United will face Villeneuve-Loubet in the Marenco Cup final on a date yet to be confirmed.
The victory serves as a prelude to a defining period for the club. On Saturday, May 16, Monaco United will travel to Cagnes-sur-mer for the Mediterranean Cup final against Olympique de Marseille’s reserve team. The fixture is of particular historical significance, as Monaco United is the first district-level team to reach the final of this competition - a feat achieved by eliminating opponents from two divisions higher.
Beyond the cup finals, the club’s progression remains a priority. Following a two-week break, the team will compete in the promotion playoffs on May 24 and May 31. These home-and-away matches will determine if the district champions can secure a move to the regional level, continuing their steady climb through the French football hierarchy.
