Monaco’s cultural landscape is about to undergo a transformation. On 20 September 2025, the Principality’s three multimedia library sites — the Louis Notari Library, the José Notari Video and Sound Library, and the Princess Caroline Library/Toy Library — will close their doors to prepare for a new chapter. Their collections and services will be merged into a single, modern space: the future Médiathèque Caroline, located on Promenade Honoré II.
The closure marks the end of an era for regular visitors who have long frequented these distinct cultural addresses. To celebrate their history, a farewell evening will take place on Friday, 19 September, from 6 pm to 10 pm at the Louis Notari Library. Organised by Monaco Town Council, the event promises to be a convivial gathering, symbolising togetherness, sharing, and gratitude before the move.
A Modern Cultural Hub
The relocation is a large-scale operation, uniting thousands of books, films, sound archives, and educational resources under one roof. When it reopens in December 2025, the Médiathèque Caroline will welcome children, students, families, and researchers into a contemporary setting that combines tradition with innovation.
The new building has been designed to encourage cultural discovery, meetings, and exchanges. It will also host free cultural opportunities, ensuring that the library remains a vibrant space for the community.
During the three-month closure, patrons will still have access to digital services via www.mediatheque.mc, while social media channels will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the move.
With this relocation, Monaco’s multimedia library is embracing the future while preserving its cultural legacy — promising residents and visitors a space that is larger, more accessible, and firmly anchored in the life of the Principality.
